A big Up South thank you...
To All who contributed to, participated in and experienced the 2008 Up South Festival. Check out clips of performances, photos and information we'll be posting about the authors and artists we featured, work with and celebrate.

Events
The Faison Firehouse Theatre in the early evening on Sunday, September 28th brought poetry, prose and film together, including acknowledgement and tribute to Toni Cade Bambara and Zora Neale Hurston, two African American master storytellers and renaissance women.

MALAIKA, "Eagle Nebula," BECKFORD, here performing "Ghetto names."

MALAIKA ADERO also read from her works: "Bambara to the Bone," an essay in Savoring the Salt: The Legacy of Toni Cade Bambara, edited by Cheryll Wall and Linda Holmes, and Speak, So You Can Speak Again: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston, she coauthored with Lucy Hurston.

"A Journey Home," a (35 min.) a moving documentary film written by, FAITH ADIELE about her journey of self discovery by way of her mother (a Scandanavian American) and father (Nigerian) was screened.
